Moose Hunt 2001

The ever continuing quest for the big one!!!!! But not this year.

Phil and I have hunted this area for better than 10 yrs with Steve joining us 3 years ago. Last year we were skunked and rained out. This year I was able to shoot one young bull. Again we were rained out. We only saw the one bull and were able to take it.

We are about 5 or 6 miles north of camp here.

Sand bar about 2 miles north of camp. This is a good place to wait. There is a large swamp directly across from this point.

Spencer with bull winkle. This is a very small moose, maybe 800 lbs on the hoof.

Phil was with me when I shot the moose.

The first two pics are from above camp. The moose pic is about 1/2 mile north of camp. This moose walked out with a young cow and a new calf. This is the only day of no rain we had and 12:30 in the afternoon, and unusual time to see moose. Steve is standing in the back ground. The fourth pic is Steve taking a break from working on the field dressing.
This can be hard work when it is a large animal.
Hunting is fun but it is also heavy work once the animal is down.

Anyone that thinks this is easy, come out and give it a try.
Anyone one of us would be happy to let you carry a quarter.

The day is done, and the sunset was outstanding. I took this out side the tent. The mystery and the magic.
